I'm guessing they mean bleeding the brakes.

We heavily grease our sliders and caliper pins on every car I've owned in the Northeast for 40 years

Never heard about oiling the discs. Perhaps they meant the caliper pins, which should not be greased on a Volvo.

You can buy the parts online. I am pleased with the Akebono pads, brembo disks are good, others may suggest other options.

I looked up Akebono set of brakes i Canada and they cost $128.93 for the front set?

How much should the total roughly be for a set of pads and discs front and back including labor?

Secondly, can I change only the front set and wait a few months to do the back. The garage said the last time that the front set were more worn.

Sure, just need to replace those who are worn. Usually they won't wear at the same rate (front and rear).

These are the front pads I installed last week, run for about $100 Cad after currency conversion. They grip well, and most importantly no more brake dust

I haven't look for discs, as for the labor time, personally with jacking the car in my garage, it would take me 30min. per corner if I work quickly. The trick is with releasing the caliper bleeders (in order to install new pads) which might be stuck, especially at the rear brakes.

May worth taking a look on local advertising such as http://www.kijiji.ca, sometimes there are people who work at the dealer and sell original parts at discount prices.

Yep labour would be on top so probably another $160 plus and then tax.

80 CAD per hour is really cheap? Is that right for labour charges?

$70-$80 cad +tx is about average for a main city 'clean' garage (non dealer). There are lousy places that will charge $50-$60 but you will probably leave with a greasy driver seat

Wow. My local indie here in NY is 100 per hour USD. I think Im driving to Canada next time I need work...

It's not the labour I'm worried about, it;s whether the rotors are too expensive?

I hope they quoted for original Volvo parts at that price. A Volvo disc sells for $100 cad here (you need to measure the ones on the car to check which exact size they are), this is just as example
