Fuel Injector o-ring kit spacer is larger than original. Is that normal?

Post by durk80 »

On this cold night, I was going to replace the pintle caps, spacers, and O-rings on all four injectors. I ordered the bosch part set: 1 287 010 704 which says it fits 1990 Volvo 240. Although from the pictures I have taken, it appears the new grey spacers inside diameter are too large. Also there is a height difference between the new grey spacer and the yellow spacer.

I am worried about the spray pattern being off if I use the new spacer with the new pintle caps.

The vague directions say:

Please note: 1. The old protective sleeve must not be removed from the injector valves with yellow supporting plates. 2. Only use flat seal ring and O-ring (1 item) when a pressure regulator intended for use with O-rings is replaced.

Do I just reuse the old yellow spacers with the new pintle caps and call it good, or did I order the wrong parts?

Thank you again in advance for any help or advice!

Andy

Isn't there also be a lower sealing grommet that helps to keep the injector in place, or I am I just crazy for thinking that. My 850 has them on the intake manifold. My abused 240 did not come with any and I could smell a strong fuel smell. These are the seals that I believe should be on the intake manifold for the injectors to sit on https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... er-3528217 The car does have EGR too if that matters.
Can anyone verify this or point me in the right direction?

Thanks for all of the expert advice in advance!
+1 on OEM injectors. Not cheap but it'll be "one and done."
Hello all,
Am new to this community, am working on a 960 Volvo to put an M90 into it and am buying two 850 MT that have sat in a garage for a year. I have done extensive work on diesels, like engine rebuilds and have done diesel injectors of the older type.

MY QUESTION: Has anyone built or rebuilt Bosch injectors for the 1990-1997 cars like the 850-940-960?
I saw the info on O-RINGS but wonder if full-blown kits for injectors exist and who makes them, where they can be gotten, etc. Also: procedures. Have not seen anything in my 6 Internet searches.

Certainly it would be easier than rebuilding the diesel injectors because the pressures are so much lower and thus less dangerous. What about parts suppliers? Procedures? Things to watch out for? Are there alternative all metal injectors for the Volvos?

Just asking, would really like info if available.

Thanks!

BOSCH TYPE 3 injectors seldom clog, but to "rebuild" can only mean someone had an injector stand, and watched spray patterns, and then slapped on a kit like this.

There are ebay resellers who have the injector equipment, and do this, but always confirm if the dude has an injector shop. Too many Pick-n-Pull hustlers on ebay, with their motor-mouths running for your dollars.

Thanks for the info and the warnings.

I'm looking for spare parts I'll need sooner or later for the volvo 960.

Do these fit a volvo 960? A look at the kits discusses EV3 and EV6 injectors which ar5e GM and Chrysler. Could they also be Volvo?

Based upon Bosch's literature, EV3/EV6' have differences in spray patterns available, and both are Gen III, but for EV3s, all are the same internally, with respect to filter used.

I believe that kit will work on all of these vehicles with 0280155746 injectors:

VOLVO 850 (1995 - 1997)
VOLVO 960 (1996 - 1997)
VOLVO S70 1998
VOLVO S90 (1997 - 1998)
VOLVO V70 1998
VOLVO V90 (1997 - 1998)

Electrically, there may be differences in Lag Time, etc. from one injector to another.
