Volvo Upper engine mount installation tool I made

I made this tool from 2 inch pvc pipe, a two inch pvc reducer, 3/8 5inch bolt and washers. I pulled the busing in from the passenger side using a lubricant like wd40 as I slowly pressed it in. Worked great. I had to use my dremel with a round sander to make the opening large enough to fit over the upper mount as shown in the pic. I posted earlier - 96 850 engine mount question. Hope this helps someone else!

Going to be doing that job myself in the near future. I read somewhere that putting the new insert in the freezer for a few hours makes installation easier.

Yes, I put mine in for a couple of hours, not sure how much difference it made because by the time I had my tool made it was not cold. Good Luck and as long as you have a tool to press it in, it is and easy job. I did take the bracket completely off rather then forcing it out of the way. Just remove the bottom nut and pull out the bolt. Comes off easy.

The freezer never helped me. I made a press out of wood. I also had a machine shop make a few to help me and others. I press it out and in on the car now in less than 10 minutes now. www.BushingPress.com

I made mine out of wood too...a drill bit for drilling out a door to put a door knob in worked great on a piece of oak 2x4...then the wood cracked when I was using it...never fear, some duct tape around the piece of wood held it together!! That and then I used an oil filter wrench for one side (an assortment at Harbor Freight is cheap) a threaded long pipe and some washers and bolts to pull everything in! Taking one out, you just use a larger one of the oil filter wrenches on the side of the upper engine mount ring and do the same thing and it pulls the rubber mount on through the ring. I too, have this down to about 10 minutes! Btw, the wooden round piece I made was useful for pushing in the subframe bushing inserts (poly inserts- with a jack) that IPD came up with and now FCP and others also sell.
