hall effect sensor location on 1986 740 wagon
I have a 1986 volvo 740 gle with no spark or fuel. Im trying to figure out where the hall sensor is located on this year to begin tests. If you have a 1986 740 or have dealt with one peraonally please feel free to comment. If you have another year or model even with the b2300 engine and that is your reference point do not comment in this thread.

Under the distributor cap is a good place to start. But since you have neither fuel nor spark I'm going to suggest that you diagnose the fuel pump relay and the radio noise suppression relay.

Yeah I gotta look at my dizzy again but I don't think its in its. I have another740 and switching relays between them shows they aren't the issue.

Google is your friend. Try googling: 1986 volvo 740 gle hall sensor
You'll find several google images of distributors. You'll see a picture of the connector that probably needs replacing. The connector alone is available. Part number for the connector is: volvo 1346793 (Bosch 1 230 329 024). The cost is about $7.50.

Yeah the store says it doesn't sell them the Bosch number you gave me is no where close to the one advance auto gave me for the sequencer as they said their computer labelled it, Volvo changes things around so much an 85 or an 87 might even be a bad reference point and google obviously doesn't have good pictures or consistent pix or I wouldn't had made a status. There's a reason why you can barely even find repair manuals for their junk and that's a reason why we all need to help each other out. No one don't need to be lurking in the corner like they got autism. Everyone here no how to write and tell what they have done.lummert wrote:Google is your friend. The part numbers I listed are for the connector, not the impulse sensor (hall sensor). One to Remember wrote:Yeah the store says it doesn't sell them the Bosch number you gave me is no where close to the one advance auto gave me for the sequencer as they said their computer labelled it, Volvo changes things around so much an 85 or an 87 might even be a bad reference point and google obviously doesn't have good pictures or consistent pix or I wouldn't had made a status. Some useful info on the ignition system:One to Remember wrote:Yeah the store says it doesn't sell them the Bosch number you gave me is no where close to the one advance auto gave me for the sequencer as they said their computer labelled it, Volvo changes things around so much an 85 or an 87 might even be a bad reference point and google obviously doesn't have good pictures or consistent pix or I wouldn't had made a status. They still couldn't locate anything so I just ordered a whole dizzy from advance auto and autozone. One is duralast and for reasons that make my brain bleed advance has to order mine from ESTONIA. I'll see what the a.z. one does Monday afternoon. I'm about to go check the fuel right now with an external CoConnection to the pump and see what that does. My dizzy on my 86 I believe is different from the one I grabbed off my 91 which complicated my search and innerchange attempts

The 91 has a crank sensor, not a hall sensor. One to Remember wrote:They still couldn't locate anything so I just ordered a whole dizzy from advance auto and autozone.
