My calipers have frozen up and taken out my right rotor - so Im in for pads rotors and calipers

OEM Volvo Caliper 177 each

Cardone 40.

With about 4 more years of use in this car, I think Cardone make sense.

Pics to come.

I just bought and installed Cardone reman front calipers. Three weeks on the car and they're rusting all over.

Rusty calipers aren't the end of the world, but they come painted and I kind of liked the look of not-brown calipers. I think I'll just have to repaint them with some POR 15 once they have a solid coating of rust on them.

Cardone + primer + caliper paint = your best value. Of course, then you'd have to paint the front calipers to match :)

Red calipers look pretty sweet on my white wagon.

Back off the parking brake 20 clicks to get the rotors off. My parking brake shoes are pretty new and fat.

One of my flare nuts was frozen to the brake pipe. It probably would have broken free, but I got clever and cracked it with the flare but wrench, then turned the caliper off the pipe instead of the other way around. I put it back on same way. You might need to massage the pipe shape back into the clips if you do this.

I grease all threads, even the caliper bolts, as I am in the rust belt. I'll inspect in a few weeks for looseness

I dribbled a bit of oil onto the parking brake adjuster threads

I degreased the rotor with brake cleaner before loading the pads.

I keep the rotor mount screw pretty loose, just above finger tight. These guys love to rust in place.

I pushed 250 ml of DOT4 through each caliper to flush and bleed. I did this solo with the cracked bleeder screw and hose looped up into the spring and pumping brake pedal up front.

After installing rotor, turn parking brake adjuster up until they get hard to turn. Repeat on other side. Now go into car and apply parking brake firmly. Release parking brake. Check adjuster and tighten more If possible. Repeat cycle until parking brake no longer can be tightened. Now back off2-3 clicks. When may still drag slightly, that's ok.

When it's right , it will be 2-3 clicks from stopping wheel from turning.

Caliper bolts are M8 x2. 13 mm socket

Test drove and CEL came on, read

P999 which translates to a Volvo specific code
ETM-ALVIN

It is fixed by cleaning out the chipmunks nesting in the air cleaner

Well, two years later, about 30k miles, the Cardone’s are freezing up in the rear left

Cool thing is I have FCP warranty.

Volvo calipers lasted 17 years
Aftermarket 2, and the freezing took out my pads early, too.

June is right about a lot of things.
