I have a 2002 S60 AWD with the 2.4 turbo engine. I went to start it yesterday. It started but quit right away. I tried again and it started but ran so rough it would not move the car.
I checked the fuel pressure at the rail it was 60 PSI cranking, fluctuating between 50 - 60 PSI running, and 50 PSI stopped.
If I hold the pedal to the floor it will start to smooth out and run up to 6000 before I lift my foot.
Could this be the fuel pressure sensor? If it is where is the FPS located?
Thanks.

Well I decided I would spend the $100 bucks and change the fuel pressure sensor. The ones I found online all say they are mounted to the fuel rail. The only things on my fuel rail are 5 injectors and a pulse damper. Does anyone know where the sensor is on my 2002 S60 2.4 turbo AWD Volvo?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I'm *assuming* the correct engine, although I doubt it would be much different. If I can find more information in Vida, I'll post it. The D5244T2 correct?

There is no fuel pressure sensor on 2002 models. This was added on or around 2004 or 2005.
That diagram above is for the diesel. Your engine is the B5244T

Thank you MarcM, and precopster. The diagram did not look like my engine. I do have the 2.4L tubro 5 cylinder gas engine. Where can I find that engine number?
I still can not find the sensor but I only had a short time to look as it started raining under my shade tree and I had to quit.
Thanks again both of you for your help.

Is this hard start consistent? I'm not sure I would mess with fuel stuff yet. Turbos don't like unmetered air, aka induction leaks, at all, fir example. A split hose will cause the same symptoms

Sorry. Learned something, a Volvo virgin. I'm a US domestic & Asian guy previous. First European car.precopster wrote:That diagram above is for the diesel. Your engine is the B5244T
The engine part #'s start with D for diesel and B for gas. The engine model is on the emissions sticker (speaking for USA), located on the hood on the very back cross member. 2nd line down says ENGINE: Seems there are revisions or series for the motors too, but they're by year. My '05 S60 says B5254T, but in parts sources it's the B5254T2.
It does say the "sensor" is on the tank (after changing the variables), but you're getting fuel at a decent pressure. You're in good hands with abscate, precopster and vtl. I'm an 'impossible to find info' finder by nature and a pro-home wrencher.

Thanks for the engine information. My engine, according to the sticker, is a "B5244T. Just like you said.
The reason I am looking at fuel is there is a strong smell of gasoline after it shuts its self off. If I let it set overnight it starts fine and will idle but as soon as I push on the pedal it starts to run rough and then shuts off with a strong smell of gasoline.
Several of the Volvo parts suppliers show a fuel pressure sensor for my year and engine but I followed the gas line back to the tank and there is no fuel sensor.
Thank you everyone for all the help I really appreciate it.

Check all the intercooler plumbing starting from the turbo outlet on top of turbo. This one pops off if unclamped and will cause your symptoms.

Sounds like it could be a bad MAF to me. Do you get a rotten egg smell out the back? If so, your air/fuel mixture is off...not because of fuel problems but because the MAF is incorrectly telling the computer to add fuel. The result out of the tail pipe is bad incident in the catalytic converter resulting in that yucky sulfur smell... just saying, this might not be it at all, but an easy check is to unplug the MAF sensor and drive it and see if the problem replicates. Btw, have you tried to read your trouble codes? You didn't say, but do you have a check engine light on?witenite wrote:Thanks for the engine information.
