Slack Seat Belt on 89 760 Turbo Wagon

Post by JohnR »

I was wondering if there is a 'trick' to adding tension to the seatbelt winder - it is not retracting the seatbelts all the way.

Or is it a case of getting a better one at the used parts place?

Thanks for any help

John

I don't know of any trick to do this. Most seat belts suffer from this problem after some years and depending on how many times they have been pulled out an let back in.

The only thing I would suggest checking is that the reel at the bottom of the belt is aligned correctly. If it is tilted slightly it will cause the problem you describe.

The problem is that the lubricating grease, over time, breaks down and becomes very thick and sticky. There is no real way to disassemble the seat belt mechanism to clean and re-lube it. Unfortunately the only solution is to replace the seatbelt.

I have had to replace 3 of my belts

Yes, I took one of the mechanisms apart and had a 'devil' of a time getting the thing together.

As I presumed, they wear out.

Thanks for the answers.
