Now why cant we consider the key to have a chip within the the rubber piece, I know alot keys of this era had the key right near the base like ford chips, but I could've sworn vw's have been chipped during the same era and didn't have that sort of a chip. Although I just got a Volvo so I guess I'm shooting blind, mine has the alarm and I've been wondering if the key is chipped or just the advanced engraving

Please refrain from using bad language at MVS.
There may be plenty of it on the net these days,
but this is not one of those places. Thank You.
Sorry mate, will do

Everyone keeps talking about the box under the ignition column. Neither car has one. Is this box somewhere else? And I have been looking at a code reader to buy as I have 4 obd2 cars, and it would not be stupid to have. Does anyone have a link on one they use and/or recommend?

It's under steering column and looks exactly like this:

Only cars with chipped keys have it.

I've never seen it before, so would assume I don't has. Which just leaves me even more screwed. It ran fine the day that I lost my key. I came home, 2 hours later a mate picked me up and I lost it some time after that. Then the day after I started trying to get it going. Everything was perfectly fine running wise when I left. So I have no clue

Fuel pump, relay ok?

Just a guess really. Reading the codes should tell you a lot more.

Best of luck mate.

Immobiliser problem.
I don't see your country flag....where are you from?

If you're from europe...you MUST have chipped keys. That immobiliser ecu is burried deep inside the dash and you will not see it if you don't search for it.

You MUST stop generalizing so much. I've never seen an 850 with chipped keys in Europe. They were an option, and the immobilizer for the 850s were something else than the later ones also, disabling the ignition and could only be disarmed by a special transponder key being inserted in the control unit.
The control unit would be relatively easy to find, and have an LED light on it.
