850 immobilizer fun
Re: 850 immobilizer fun
For the V70, the ECU is linked to the immobilizer under the steering column, which in turn is programmed to recognize the proper chipped keys. Maybe replacing all three with a set (ECU, immobilizer, key) could work. Some locksmiths will program the transponder if you take it to them (easy), for example something like LostVolvoKeys.com will do it by mail. It's not cheap but better than towing the car to the dealership.

They are linked, but ONLY in the way that immo sends ok signal to ecu...nothing else...on pre '99 models. So you would only need immo ecu and it's key.Ecu just needs "green light" from immo ecu.
'99 model car's immo system is linked with ecu in different way.In this case you would need ecu, immo ecu and it's key(chipped key) because there is confirmation code which ecu is requesting from immo ecu.
On pre '99 models it's so much simpler.
