Sounds like a classic failed engine coolant temperature sensor. The car thinks its very cold so it dumps extra fuel in to enrich the mixture for starting. The only way to clear to extra fuel is to depress the gas pedal -- sounds counterintuitive I know, but it isn't. If you change the ECT, then also change the thermostat.

Thanks for the advice, I will continue to investigate. I still suspect it to be the fuel injector relay. The clip on mine was broken off and it was floating around which probably made it come loose over time. I going to clean out the MAF when I get chance as well as check the CPS.
