Yesterday was a hot day in Providence, Rhode Island, and it's been hot for a while. Which apparently explains why, last evening, the rear-view mirror in my 1993 240 came unglued from the glass.
I've read up on the general principles of re-attaching this mirror, and I have some 3M adhesive in hand, but there is a twist: the mirror is connected to a wire, and I can't see how to safely disconnect the wire at either end. All of the instructions on how to re-attach this kind of mirror start with the mirror in one's hands, so that one can detach the "button" from the mirror, but with it dangling from a wire, this is nearly impossible.
I'd appreciate any tips from anyone who has had to tackle this before! Thanks in advance.

thank you! same system for my 240.
It's (somewhat) encouraging to know that I'm not the only one! But the link is about the side-mirror on a 740.
I have cleaned the glass, and am now going to see if I can get the "button" out of the mirror mount -- will have another look to see if the cord has any point at which I can disconnect it. If this all works, I'll post what I did!

I was able to get this done -- assuming the adhesive holds! Turns out the "button" is held in place not by a sprint, but by a set-screw that takes an Allen wrench -- it actually is much preferable, as when you re-attach the mirror to the button, you don't have to use any force. The wire also turned out to be connected to a mini-wire-harness in the base of the mirror, easily removed with a little tab. Fingers crossed that it's a permanent fix (I used 3M rearview mirror adhesive).
