Adult words, indeed! I was nearly upside-down, legs wriggling out the door, sweating and swearing!
Your tutorial was great! It was surprisingly difficult to find instructions online for this task.
I did have one problem that has work temporarily halted. I removed two of those five screws to free the blower motor, the easiest ones, of course) but the three that you need to be in the cirque du soleil to reach? Corroded. The heads are like powder down the middle.
Knowing how awful it is to access these screws, what would you (or anyone) suggest?
I am thinking maybe - if I can get to the screws to do this - maybe trying to knock off the heads of corroded enough, pull off blower, drill into the screws and try to use other screws in their place.
I also maybe could Use these little metal things that you hammer into ...oh, I can't remember what they're called. But I bought them. Thinking I could use it instead of drill, because they're longer.
Any advice? I need those screws out!

Hi Matthew. I must commend you on your detail and clear presentation. Always a pleasure to observe someone who is great at their craft! Thank You.
I own an XC70 Cross Country 2004 2.5T . The interior fan is shot. I just wanted to know it the procedure below is suited for my model car too ? The dealers quoted 10 hours of labour to replace the fan. That's on top of the replacement unit.
So I just wanted to be sure before embarking on the instructions below.
Eagerly awaiting your reply.

I'm not Matthew but did start this thread who others added to. Yes, your car should be the same as the general instructions are for. Just get in there and look back at this thread for the details that you will need!

I just replaced the blower motor in the wife's 2005 XC90 tonight. Took about an hour with the worst part being a contortionist to get the mounting screws off and on! As for that impossible fifth screw, I just removed the other four first, then tugged the unit hard enough to rip the tab away from the screw, leaving the screw in place. Snipped the mounting tab for that screw off of the new cap piece and just re-mounted the four screws easy enough to reach. Tightened up fine with no issues. This was not a fun job even if it didn't take all that long...sure was worth while though, considering the $1,000 the stealership wanted for doing it...

Same here, the 5th screw rests in the tool box
An electric screw driver or drill helps with these screws.

Hi! My first post!
My wife's 2007 V70's blower fan stopped blowing last week. We can feel the A/C and heat seeping through the vents - just no blower motor to push it through. I initially thought easy fix - change the blower motor. Before I did that though I thought I would just test to see if the motor is even getting power. I took off all the preliminary junk last night (door sill, side panel, soundproofing, glove compartment) and got to the motor housing. I got 3 of the screws out but I'm having a heck of a hard time getting to the other 2. Is there an easy way to test for power on the 4-pin connector you disconnect before you take off the motor housing? I'd like to avoid making my bad back even worse if possible!
Thanks all,
- Ian

Hello Ian from another n00b 'round here! This is one of the best Volvo sites around, hands down!
Others will have much wiser things to say than I -- having just done this repair on my kid's '99 V70R, I can only ask the basic q's - you checked relevant fuses and so on, yes? Cleaned out the cabin temp sensor?
As to testing it prior to removal -- For the Falcon, even though my multimeter showed continuity on the blower, when I finished hauling it out of there and hooked it up to the battery the evidence was clear that the blower was in fact crapped out - it'd spin up, then falter and stop. I also replaced the power stage while I was at it. So far so good. *knock wood*
Farther back in this thread is mentioned the paperclip trick to check power to the pins. The instructions throughout this thread told me everything I needed to test and check, from the ECC trouble codes to tips'n'tricks.
'Luck!

In a previous post (https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... hp?t=50823) there is a schematic for the system. The blower motor housing has a 4 -pin connector going to it. I'm getting a good ground at the black wire and 13V between the black and red wire. The blue and yellow wires are the question really. I'm seeing a tiny voltage on those that doesn't change when I turn the fan switch on. Should it? Or is it sending some other kind of signal to the motor through those wires?
