And I have to hit my horn to get shifter to move and most electronics to work. Back brakes barley seem to work if at all. It's a 97 850 turbo.
Sounds suspiciously like a bad ignition switch.
The contacts wear out and all kinds of things happens.
It's a really simple swap, though. Budget about 50 bucks
and stick with OEM for the new electrical contact block.
I jiggled key while driving tonight and speedo started working. Very interesting.

The parking brake assembly looks good (i adjuated them a whe ago, but better safe than sorry) but the inner piston was stuck so i got it moving again. Since i didn't take the caliper off the car i couldn't really rebuild it, i just broke it loose by locking the outer piston and then pumped the pedal a few times. Might be a temporary fix only. Now the left side seems to work alright again, but i will also di the right reat one as the rubbing still can be felt. Interesting input about the rubber line collapsing. I just had the front ones replaced but will do the rear ones soon as well.
Yeah, that's going to lock up on you again. It might help to flush your brake fluid out and put in fresh, which you should do every two years anyhow, but the corrosion damage is probably already done.

The rear calipers on my 1999 are non-floating type ( caliper stays still, two Pistons move) which last longer but have to be replaced when they freeze. I found the FCP Cardone after markets to be rebuilt OEM ATE calipers at 1/4 the price.
Of course, Abscate was right, it froze up again and I decided to get a rebuilt one (108Euro for an AC Delco one, the only one I could get quickly) since noone here could order me a rebuild kit. I´ll also replace the slider pins. I´ll report back on that in a few weeks. If this Fails again I might have to try a new (used) hydraulic block, but I doubt this is the culprit (i might be wrong, though).

Ive had luck honing wheel cylinders on old VW drum brakes, but the minute I see sticking in calipers, the decades have taught me to pitch both calipers and replace all the brakes - good for 5 years.

108 EURO? I should start a US-AUS car parts import business on my trips to Vorarlberg..

yeah, prices over here for car related things are sometimes ridiculous. years ago when I was on the west coast very frequently I bought tons of craftsman and snap-on tools in the states cuz they were so much cheaper.
btw, the core value for the rear caliper is 50 Euro. You can get a freshly rebuilt one in the states for less.
So, for now I´m being cheap and will only replace the left rear caliper.
