Hello,
Recently my 2000 v40 radiator sprung a leak and I need to replace it. I would like to save money and replace it myself, but can't seem to get solid and sure advice/instructions on how to do it. I seem to get different answers on whether the radiator has to be removed from the bottom, or top. I have looked it over and I can't seem to see why it can't clear and come out from the top? To be honest, removal from underneath looks like a nightmare I wouldn't want to tackle. There's a large cross member running under the engine that seems to be important to supporting the engine and would be right in the way. Would that have to be removed to get it out? A couple of shops have told me it has to come out the bottom... but I'm paranoid that's just a way they can pump up the price and hours of labor...?
Any advice or instructions would be greatly appreciated. I can't unfortunately find any instructions on any of the standard major search-engines.
Instructions for replacing 2000 v40 radiator?
Hello,
I know it is nearly a year later, but I am also looking for instructions on removing/replacing my 2000 S40 radiator. It started leaking a couple of days ago. I noticed the heat wasn't working and then saw the temp gauge reading way into the red. The system basically won't hold coolant. I would like to do the work myself since I just put $500 into the car on another repair. And I like fixing things.
I found a PDF through another posting on this site. It is titled, "01 S40 Coolant System" and is somewhat helpful until I get the the part that says, "see 'Replacing the charge air cooler (CAC)'." I am unable to click the link to that section and I've not found it on this forum.
Any instructions on radiator replacement would be much appreciated.
Thank you

I know it's over 2 years later, but I wanted to post this because I'll be helping my brother-in-law do his radiator in his '01 S40 in the near future- this guy uses a really cheap radiator. I'm not sure if that's such a good idea but it is quite a savings and the job isn't technically that hard:
