2002 S60 non turbo jerks at speeds between 50 to 60 mph

Post by Brandonmt423 »

I have a 2002 S60 non turbo with 120,000 miles . I put a used a engine in the car 3 years ago due to the timing belt breaking and bending valves. The car ran great for the first two years. About a year ago I started having issuses with the etm. I put a installed a used etm and it ran good for a while then when it started to fail i installed another one . After that one failed I decided to purchase a Sacer tps and install it. I did that and it ran better than it did but it did not fix it . The car still has a rough idle , when going speeds of 50 to 60 mph it jerks hard, and at times the transmission acts like it slips when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear . I have codes 1A5D communication with etm control module signal is missing, about 8 codes that says they are undocumented codes , and a code in the tcm that says "torque converter jerks at lock up " . I am a technician and have snap on diagnostic scan tools but i am not sure what to do next .Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks and god bless.

Oh my- so many issues that this could be, I do not know where to start. Was the ECM (not the etm) in the car the original and the engine swap an identical swap as what came out of it? I'm thinking there was some "marrying" between your ECM and new engine that has not taken place...same could have happened with the etm although it would be good to know what type of etm you got- a Volvo rebuild, just one out of another Volvo or one of the XmodeX units? Your model year, 2002 is prone to have ETM failures and if you're just robbing '02 ETM's for replacements, you could be going through the typical failures on all of them after awhile. There is also a possibility that the transmission is problematic. Have you done any "drain and fills" to replace the fluid in it? You know the fluid has to be the JWS-3309 fluid and you can't use Dex/Merc or Mobil-1 Synthetic.

The engine was an identical swap . I have the factory ECM in the car . I installed the Sacer tps sensor on the factory white label ETM that came with the car . No I haven't done any fluid changes or flushes.
