Volvo Repair Database Junking My 2000 V70 - What Should I Pull Off of it?

Post by jamesbeat »

I was planning on changing my timing belt last month, bought the kit and and all the tools I needed.
I asked for help on the forum, read all the tutorials, and watched videos for hours until I was confident I could do it.

Then, a couple of days before I was planning on changing it, my gallbladder exploded and put me on the hospital :(
The doctors told me that I had to wait a month before picking up anything over 15lbs or doing anything strenuous, so I marked the calendar for the second week in November.

Well, wouldn't you know it, I was driving to work on Monday and the belt snapped and took out the engine :(

I'm junking the car either tomorrow or Sunday, and in addition to syphoning out the full tank of gas, I want to pull as much valuable stuff off it as possible.

I'm not going to have long to do it, and I am still not allowed to exert myself too much.

What are some small and easy but valuable things I could take off the car?

I'm thinkg the MAF might be a good start, but other than that, I just don't know what's worth taking.

Any ideas?

How's the condition of the V70's body? Any rust? Dents? Ever in a collision or accident?

PM me pictures if you can, as well to include what you're looking to be compensated. I may be interested in the entire V70 if I determine its something of interest and we can come to an agreed deal.

The ETM is worth some dollars, particularly if it didn't create CELs. I'm assuming this is a NON TURBO car. The car's transmission computer (marked TEMIC) isn't tied into the Canbus with the immobiliser so would work on any 2000 model S70/V70 NON TURBO with the 5 speed auto.

The MAFs are made by Denso and ultra reliable but would fetch over $80 used as they are expensive new.

Also if this car has cruise control the operation panel (DIM) can turn a 99/00 NON TURBO car WITHOUT CRUISE CONTROL into a cruise enabled car by just adding the cruise stalk.

Thanks guys, looks like I should be able to get a reasonable amount of money out of this thing. I love this car - so gutted that I have to scrap it.

Beigg, I sent you a PM.
If you can't swing it, please let me know so I can get to work removing parts.

If the seats are leather and in reasonable condition, they should find a home, although folks might be interested in the seat skins only. The radio if in good shape will bring a few bucks. If you have an SC-901 head unit and dash with the central speaker, the top dash pad with speaker and associated stereo equip. can realize value, but you should also harvest ALL associated wiring -- the stuff running from the underseat amp to the head unit and if it has a Dolby unit (mounted by the heater core) the wires from it to the head unit.

Steering wheel -- it has an airbag in it, and passenger side airbag as well as rear windshield wiper motor and arm are also worth harvesting. Headlights, if in good condition with good silvering and rear light lenses are worth saving as well, as are the side marker lights and associated wiring.

If it has fog light, grab them too. Any switch work you can pry from the dash without damaging could also find a home.

Roof trim and roof racks if so equipped. Front sun visors could also find a home.

Front and rear bumper covers if in good shape (the rears go for about $600 from the dealer new, I can't imagine the front's are any cheaper).

Third seat stuff if so equipped, but you have to get it all, including all associated small parts since some of them are NLS.

Climate control unit from the dash. AC compressor and PS pump.

Grille, door handles with associated hardware. Exterior mirrors. Air guide. Gas cap. Fuel door. Interior rearview mirror & light cluster. Glove box door. Interior door panels if in good condition without failed glue puckering. Tail gate lift struts. Wiper arms. Engine oil cooler if it has one (my car doesn't).

Hazard flasher -- it is a simple removal and they go for about $50+ new. Top dash pad. Sunroof glass if so equipped and perhaps even sunroof motor. Front fenders. Cigarette lighter. Cigarette lighter plug covers. Brake booster. Master cylinder. Brake reservoir. Interior grab handles and rear courtesy lights.

Catalytic converter worth cutting off in rear, un bolting from front.

Junkyards aren't allowed to sell them and a lot of older cars need them in the northeast

$250 is market value in. Good shape
