ABS and Track lights on...

Post by mbaskette »

2000 V70 XC

ABS and Track lights on... ABS control module replaced with rebuild from Midwest ABS. Immediately after replacement and after several startup check, the lights were off. First time down the street, they are back on. What next?

Thanks

The ABS doesnt check until the car moves at about 15 mph, so startup checks aren't relevant.

If you are a musician or perceptive you will hear a "burp" when itvself tests.

Probably a bad wheel sensor but the codes will tell you that and which one

1. Make sure you installed the harness per the sheet in the box.

2. If that isn't it, email me. Then when the old one comes back I'll pull the codes from it to see where the issue is.

But... You have to email me. I have to run all of my communication from one spot.

Still chasing this one. Matty Moo has been helpful to get me to where it seems like my issue is probably the front right ABS sensor. His rebuilt module did not rectify my problems and he kindly provided me the codes from my returned unit. Hopefully my rebuilt module is "bulletproof" now. His service is great, and my misdiagnosis was my fault and not his.

Been driving with ABS non-functioning until I get a weekend to test and replace the wheel sensor as needed. New issue today. Flashing Up Arrow... Just came on while approaching a stop light at near idle speed. Tranny seems to shift fine despite the light. I see in some posts hear and other forums that this too could be related to the ABS. Can someone offer any details regarding this. Hopefully the issues are related.

The wheel sensors are used to detect wheel speed which is used by the TCM and ECU to dictate shifting, so a bad wheel sensor could be causing your flashing light. I think Mike knows which transmissions use which wheel sensor for what, but either way replace it or find the broken wire and resolder and seal

Wow... This just gets more intriguing. Removed the front right wheel to inspect the ABS sensor indicated by my ABS module. As I readied the car to jack, I went to loosen the lugs. This morning, the front right wheel had no center cap and no axle bolt. I get the wheel off to go about my intended business... Rotor pin in missing too. Joy.

On the later models the axle bolt isn't as important as the big 36mm nut on the -1998. The rotor pin isn't important either

On edit ..see Matty note below

If the axle is loose and sliding in/out, your ABS will fault.

When I took my M10 axle nut off, I need a 15 ton press to get the axle to move out of the hub, though.

If the 14mm bolt isn't in place the axle slides back and forth within the hub. When that happens the tone ring also moves along with the axle and doesn't line up with the speed sensor.

So... All he has to do is acquire another axle bolt.

I might have spares if your unable to source locally. The later style M10 is a torque to yield, single use bolt.

Torque spec is 120 Nm, then 60 degree angle tighten. AKA REALLY TIGHT
