'96 850 turbo, retiming my camshafts?

Post by Cook.p.michael »

1996 850 turbo 2.3L b5234T USA, long story short, my cam sprockets are off and i need to retime my cams. I have no idea how, the head is off so i can see where each piston is if that helps. Thanks!

Set the crankshaft to the tiny timing mark(s). It will not be at #1 TDC but it is in the neighborhood. From there you set the slots on the back of the cams to be in line with the seam between the head and the cam cover. The slot on the intake will be just above the seam and the slot on the exhaust will be just below the seam. You can then center the timing sprockets in the slots and the timing marks should line up as normal.

Thank you Lee that's the second part but the first part is that the sprockets are off of the camshafts so which of the three possible ways do I bolt them back on? Also they have oblong holes in the sprockets so is that for fine tuning later? Do I just center them for now?

You know what, I think you did answer my question, when I get into working on my car I'm like a methhead who doesn't sleep for days and works straight on through. Lack of sleep messes with m reading comprehension.
