05' V70 cat question

Hello,

My V70 needs a new catalytic converter. The original one developed a crack at the front bracket and started to leak last summer. My local garage welded it up but it didn't last and the leak is back.

I'm looking at buying an aftermarket cat but I need some feedback on which brands to buy, and which ones to avoid. FCP has a brand that I don't recognize. Have you heard of DEC and are they any good?

Rockauto has a few choices which are really cheap, and I will stay away from those. However they sell Bosal brand cats for a reasonable price as well. I recognize this brand from Germany, this company has been around for a long time and their exhaust systems were of decent quality back when I was still there. I'm tempted to buy that one but I wish I could get some feedback on the quality.

I would like to buy one that lasts, but can't really afford an OEM one.

Your thoughts on this are much appreciated.

Try erie volvo for a used one.

A big no for aftermarket, unless you don't mind having a Check engine light. Plenty of used original ones out there, what happened to yours is quite rare.

You will have a tough time getting a business to sell you a used cat. A private party will sell you one....insert <std.disclaimers>

I hope that's not the case, since the used route seems to be my only feasable option.

Erie lists them on their inventory so it looks good if you can find one.

Just west of Boston theres a salvage yard with a boatload of V70's,
Holland Salvage, Billerica MA. Wouldn't wanna go there now, kinda muddy.

Dirk...FCP has a DEC one for $450. Double check your VIN but I think I would go that route

Hi Steve, thanks. This is really what I wanted to know to begin with in my initial post. It seems like you know about the DEC brand, is this a good quality product?
