Clutch Survey

I purchased 2 auto transmission for $100. Transmission from a YouPull cost about $125. You can get them pulled for about $40.

If I replace the fluid in my autobox every 50,000 miles, I'd spend about $50. Times that by 4 that's $200.

So, I'm thinking an auto trans swap would cost about $900 labor, $125 trans, $100 seals, $40 pulled (from donor car), $40 fluid, $200 fluid changes: Total about $1,365.

Manual clutch job: $252 clutch kit (shipping?), $25 Flywheel surface (hope it's good)., Fluid $40, Labor??? $900, Seals $100; Total about $1317.

Interesting... I do realize that driving a manual is more fun for the young at heart, but it sure it hard to text, mess with the stereo, and eat my burger while shifting. :shock:

One more question (for now)... how thick is a clutch? I pulled one from my donor car which had about 16,000 miles on it. Wondering if it is good enough to use or should I get a new R kit? There was a lot of dirt material in the flywheel area and the flywheel was worn down more than I expected. Pulled a flywheel from a car with 200,000+ miles and the flywheel looked almost new (put the clutch material was almost down to the rivets.

How you can put a price tag on the view of rapidly receding BMWs?

For winter driving, delete a couple of " got stuck" extrications in snow country , too.

Stick shift , AWD Canadians ignore that...you smug little Northemers with your balanced budget, health care 1/2 the cost of ours, gorgeous Prime Minister, and your good manners....and the Leafs!

I'm pretty sure most independent shop will not touch a manual conversion job.

I was just taking about a simple clutch job. (Yes, I know a few that will do a conversion, about $1,800).

Balanced budget, that is long gone. Even Harper our previous conservative prime minister couldn't balance the budget. It hasn't been balanced since the early 2000s and Trudeau is on record to make an even bigger gap with all his virtue signalling. And,... the leafs are a disappointment, haven't watched them in years.
