2000 Volvo S80 Cruise Control Drops Out

Cruise Control drops out - around 10 times on a 12 hour trip - no warning.

It can be reset after several engage/disengage and/or on/off toggles of the cruise control buttons.

Non turbo car has 85K miles, no related problems or recent repairs, and this is a new problem.

Any suggestions on the cause? Fix?

I am having the same problem on my 2000 S80 T and would be interested in what you learn.

My cruise control dropped once during warranty time. The Volvo workshop can easily check the reason behind this by the VIDA system. In my case they could see that I had pressed the actication button too long time. Everything is recorded. The also informed that the cruise control disengage is not just activated by the brake and the off button. Any problem in any other system in the car disengage the cruise control. It could be the skid supervison or the anti spin or maybe something wrong in those systems. I would say that this problem is hard to solve without the VIDA information.

I had the same problem with my cruise control a couple weeks ago. It began disengaging itself even thougn the Cruise light was still on. I took it into my Volvo dealer and they found a faulty brake sensor. Evidently the sensor was telling the car that the brake was pressed even though I never touched it. Obviously, this would cause the cruise control to disengage.

Needless to say, $150 and a new brake sensor cured my problem. (I was also experiencing strange surges around 55-60 mph during the same time my cruise was acting funny. The dealer indicated these two problems were not related, but since replacing that sensor I have not had the surging issue either.)
