O2 sensor location 01 xc70

Good morning, I hope this topic has not been beaten to death but I am having trouble defining the O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 2 location. Every diagram I find is not representative of what I actually have on my vehicle. I have one sensor under the vehicle ( it's on the lift now) and it is located on the top front of the catalytic converter on the motor side. There is no sensor after the cat. Is this the bank 1 sensor 2 location? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you .

I believe it's located in front of the flexible downpipe, just after the exhaust manifold. Visible bending under the hood across the engine.

Okay, I can see that one as I stretch across the top of the motor and look down the back of the motor. Volvo shows that as being bank 2 sensor 1?. The problem beingcas that according to Volvo I should see 2 more, 1 pre cat and 1 post cat. What I am seeing is that after the flex pipe downstream there is no pre cat nor post cat sensor there is only a sensor right in the top of the cat towards the front of the cat and I can not figure this out. Everything on this 02 xc70 is stock.

I'm pretty sure your car should have two OXS. Bank 1 sensor 1 precat and bank 1 sensor 2 post cat.

Are you getting a P code about one of your sensors?

Yes p0141 code. I know, as all info points to 2 sensors pre and post cat, but there is only one after the flex pipe and it is in the catalytic converter on top. I've gone over every inch of the exhaust system post cat and there is no sensor. Vehicle was on the lift and we had 2 sets of eyes and hands going over the system trying to discern where this sensor is. I can take photos tomorrow evening to show location of sensor in the cat.

If using a generalized code reader/scanner, that is typical of the definition.

That code refers to bank 1 sensor 2, the Post cat OXS

If it's missing , the ECU will whine and spit out codes

Could someone have put an aftermarket cat on perhaps? I don't think there are any flex pipes after the cat so that might be it.

Post your engine code ( on your emission sticker ) so we can solve This mystery. On my NA, one of the OXS can't be seen from up top, you have to roll underneath with the car jacked and search with a flashlight

"Post cat" may be a bit misleading as to the actual location. I found the downstream sensor on my 03 to be screwed into the top of the cat at roughly mid point. There was only one other sensor, the upstream one, located up by where the manifold feeds into the flex pipe. Two sensors total. I found it easier to just undo the flange aft of the cat and let the cat swing down far enough to unscrew the sensor - didn't want to bend the flexi pipe more than necessary.

P0141 refers to a failed preheater circuit in the sensor. I found that I could clear the code and then retrigger it by simply turning the ignition on - I didn't even have to start the engine. That would make sense as the preheater clicks on and starts heating the sensor when the ignition is turned on. It doesn't wait for the engine to start running. I don't know if both sensors have preheater a or if it's only the downstream one. I think if there are four wires then there is a preheater while two wires indicate no heater. Based upon the code description it sounds like the problem lies in the downstream sensor.

I would suggest you replace the sensor with the identical brand and part number that is OE - probably Bosch in your case - and includes the connector so you don't have to figure out the wiring and do a bunch of soldering and shrink wrapping. Stockwiseauto.com used to have good prices on the right stuff.
