That's a good plan. The feathering throttle routine is another indicator of induction leak.
You really need to remove the parts for inspection, so a pressure test is quicker

I'd take a look at all the air intake tubing/air charge tubing/vacuum hosing.
Is it surging when you give it throttle?

I put some pressure to it and found a hole in the bottom of the intercooler that looks like it was manufactured that way. My parts car has the samr hole but I have not pressured it up yet to see if it leaks.abscate wrote: You probably have a hole or loose clamp in the induction path between the turbo and the throttle body. You've got a lot of symptoms pointing to that.

I guess I'll pressure test the other before I put it in.

That hole is okay, it's the weep hole that lets out moisture and small oil seeps. Plug it with gum or your finger when you leak test

I still have to get to the last air intake line and examine it. I see a few vacuum line that have recently been repaired by the guy I bought it from. I will look into the vacuum lines while digging into the intake connection. Out of daylight today so I'll hit it again after work tomorrow.

Fixed vacuum lines and took out the intake to verify all the connections. Got it all back together and there is no change. MAF should be here by Thur. Hope that fixes it. Any other things to check out?
Almost forgot. Two injectors have the plastic in the outside of the tip broken. Looks like the previous owner wasn't careful enough when he took it apart. Could this contribute to the issues?

I popped an intake hose once and it took about a week of driving to get my power back after disconnecting the battery overnight and tightening all my hoses up again. I don't think the plastic bits on the injectors serve much a purpose besides keeping the oring on and taking up space but I might be wrong.

I ordered the Bosch MAF from IPD for 70 buck less then a knockoff from the parts house. It fixed the problem and the car runs great. Thanks for the help and advise. I know the car a bit better for having followed the steps to examine the air intake system.
