When you slipped the wrench through that tight space were you using a racheting box wrench or a socket wrench? What size were the bolts? Have you suffered any ill effects of removing the passenger bolter and installing the map pocket? I want to do this same operation in my 98 but have heard all kinds of crazy stories. Thanks.

I did this upgrade on a 98 V70 as well. I was able to remove the bracket without messing with the side panel and weather stripping. I have a couple metric wrenches with very, very short handles. I think they are craftsman brand from Sears. They are short enough so clearance is not an issue. The bracket came off quickly without the use of colorful language.

Have you suffered any ill effects as a result of your mod? Such as steering problems or structural issues with the dash? Also, do you happen to know the size of the bolts that require the short handled metric wrenches?

I used a 1/4 in. ratchet. I believe it was a 12mm screw, might have even been 14.
My dash hops around anyway, but I think it's because all the mounts are crap. I don't think the bolster being removed has anything to do with that.

The only ill effect I've observed is that my spouse has now monopolized the storage/cubby space. The bolts are probably either 12 or 13 mm because I only have short wrenches for a few of the common sizes.
