pnp switch alignment

I read a article on this site related to installing new PNP switch.. I have a issue .. i have no idea in what position the bold is that sticks out of the automatic transmission.. i still need to attach the new PNP switch.. on its way , new one.. i read about reverse light .. on and off.. but dont understand why i have to mark.. why not tighten bold when light comes on.. but initially i have the problem that i have no idea in what position bold is that on AT .

I fear something is bring lost in translation here but the PNP switch is keyed and it will only fit on in the correct roughly lined up position, Once it is installed and the center nut is snugged down then the switch itself can be rotated slightly for the fine adjustment. The easy way to do the fine adjustment is to chock the wheels and put the shifter in reverse with the key in position II. Rotate the switch so that the final position is the midpoint between the reverse lights going from on to off at both ends of the rotation.

A mirror at the back of the car is a big help so that you can see the reverse lights while you are rotating the switch.
