Hi, I have a 2003 V70 base non-turbo 2.4 fwd with 130k miles. My problem is that it has a lack of power under 2k rpms. The rpms climb slowly under 2k and once it reaches 2k rpms, it takes off and everything is fine. It is almost dangerous from a full stop. It has been like this since I got the car about 3 years ago.
I recently changed the spark plugs with Volvo plugs and am running a 89/93 mix for 91 octane (I have been running 87 octane before this).
Any ideas on this lack of power/slow climbing rpms under 2k?
Thanks for any responses.

What oil used? I noticed lighter weight oil seems to make a difference in acceleration. I have no idea why but when summer rolls around and I switch to 10w30 from 5w30 as required for my particular turbocharged engine, I always think the car feels sluggish with 10w30. Both weights are synthetic only I use. June

I assume automatic?
It's the first time I read about such issue, so perhaps not something common. Any repairs done, fuel pump, PEM, FPS ? Can you read the FPS number, maybe it has the sensor for the turbo engines.
Maybe also check all these hoses are in place

Yes Automatic.
Yes I have been changing the oil with full synthetic 5w-30. I changed the oil about a week ago with mobile 1 5w-30 full synthetic. I also changed the air filter at the same time.
I drove the car to my father's house this afternoon and when I went to start it up tonight (about 4 hours later), it would start, stumble, then die. I had the same problem last year around this same time when the weather got warmer (I am in the northeast). I replaced the fuel pump and it was fixed.
Could the weather change affect the fuel pump or fuel filter? It is a Bosch fuel pump with only 5k miles on it and only 11 months old.

I don't think the fuel pump could be in cause if it's a Bosch unit.
While there, I'd clean the throttle body flap on both sides. Then have a look at the MAF wire - not saying it's related, but it's a good maintenance on this engine.

Ok thanks, I'll look into that.
Any ideas why my car was not able to start tonight? It would turn over for 5 seconds max (each time was different) while the rpms stumbled and then die. I had the same exact symptoms last year and the fuel pump solved the issue. Idk why a Bosch pump would fail within 1 year though.

I remembered that I have the steel fuel tank. Is the fuel filter serviceable on my car or is it part of the fuel pump?

key word: PEM. at the right rear door, as you look underneath on top of the gas tank, you can see the module, it's secured with one screw. prone to corrosion. I believe it doesn't need reprogramming and can be replaced with a used unit
