Windshield Pillar Trim Blues

Post by dyn blin »

The local Pick n Pull had a 50% off weekend, where I found some goodies, including some snappy visors to replace my tired, floppy set. Bonus- They matched my interior, and had the homelink goodies!

Despite taking precautions with 20 year old UV-compromised plastic, (allowing the interior to warm up in the NorCal sunshine, carefully and slowing prying with an upholstery tool, and being very gentle) the driver pillar crumbled. Before I tackled the passenger side, I covered the entire piece with duct tape before prying. This helped quite a bit, giving some rigidity and transferring the flex tension, but I still lost all but two attachment tabs, and now it's as floppy as the old visors.

I'm going to post a "wanted" in the classifieds for a set of beige window pillar trims (right 9414653, left 9410059), but realizing I'm likely looking for a beige unicorn, I am looking for the wisdom of the collective:
  • Tasca seems to have best price "new": Anyone else with experience want to mention any other sources?
  • The left seems to be common between '93 and '97 model years, but the right says shared only between '96 & '97, is that correct?
If anyone has some tips/tricks to coaxing the trim panels off without disappointment, please help prevent Post-Pick-n-Pull Letdown Syndrome, and post in a reply.

Thanks for the bandwidth.

That is when living in a normally hot sunny climate can suck. Are 850 and V/S/70 parts different? Once I am able to visit PnP again I will look out for you here as plastic still goes brittle but to a lesser extent.

Much obliged Neil. I'm going to check the PnP again this weekend, but part numbers differ. I'll get in for a real-world check and post back.
