When i check my fluid when cars off i can see it in the dipstick. When i check it after running for 30 minutes and while its idling there is no fluid on dipstick?

I can't recall with that transmission if you check it when it is hot, or when it is hot and running. Do you have the owners manual as it will state the correct method? I will have a 98 handbook somewhere, but will have to take a rummage around to find one.

Best way to check, in my opinion, is to get it all warmed up like you said after some driving, park it on a flat surface with the engine running. Cycle through all the gears for a few seconds at a time, returning to Park at the end. With the engine still running, go out and check the level using the "Hot" marks. If there's no fluid on the stick after doing this, you need to top up.
Cold readings with the engine off is the wrong way.
