I guess ABS module failures are not that common either?

Call me crazy but I think these failing relays destroy fuel pumps as well. Cutting the pump off and on hundreds of times while you drive down the road... Just my strange thinking.

Well now that you mention it, it couldn't be too good for the fuel pump. Similar to a kid playing with all the switches on the dash and turning things on and off.

You already know this Robert but for the benefit of the hundreds of people who will read this thread later and wonder what the heck you are talking about: ABS module failures are almost 100% by now. Almost every 850 at the junkyard, has a failed or a reman'ed ABS module. Compare that with my comment about fuel pump relays a few posts up. There is no comparison.

That all depends on how fresh of a kill it is.

For a cat, we make Chinese food. For a dog we make Korean food =) Both are plentiful and easy to replace - no shortage of aftermarket replacements. If all else fails, make a burger and put a slice of cheese on it. Everyone loves cheese!

When returning home, keep insisting to the wife and kids you don't remember there being any pets present on the trip. Do not let it slip that Rover was delicious! Pro tip - don't use the pelt as a new gear shift boot, you will get you caught =)

After reading this thread - goes back to order those 2 relays by the fuse panel that looked sketchy... Been meaning to do it.

One other suspect cause of fuel pump failure - clogged fuel filters. I've heard of very few posts where someone replaces the filter at the same time as the pump. Generally speaking if you're able to replace both I would do so. Fuel pumps have 2 failure modes that come to mind - physical destruction of the impeller or electrical. Guess where the small fuel pump chunks go?

I had a nagging little no-start issue that I had a feeling was no fuel but at the time I wasn't able to test and prove. We replaced the fuel filter at Albany Volvo Fest and I haven't had the problem since. It would sound as if the pump kicked on, but you wouldn't get fuel, even with a jumper wire. Other times you'd get fuel for 2-3 seconds and she'd cut out. You'd restart, get another 2-3 seconds or nothing. 20 minutes to a half hour later she'd fire right up, every time. I replaced it as part of a planned stage 0 - it solving the issue was a welcome bonus.

And make sure if you're expecting guests you don't bring it home and leave it on the floor...
