V70 front seatbelt possible on 850?

We are inspected annually but the SRS system is not a covered item, and you can pass with the light on, in upstate NY

In Holland the srs light is strangely enough not a problem. Only the abs or brake lights would fail the annual test.
Lot of people connect the abs light to the battery light for that reason. So it will be on at the turn of the key, and go off again after starting.
After replacing my speedo cog I found this done to my car too.
I made it all original again. and just fixed the abs controller. I think abs is a must on cars nowadays. you just wont outbreak the other cars.

I know that in germany you cannot drive with lights in the dash on too. If I ever was stopped there, that would probably have been a problem.
Even though my car has an official test approval in another eu country.

We too have local garages doing the annual inspection. Mechanics do a special training and then can do the test. you can stay there and watch. it only takes 20 minutes. And I know all they will check.
And of course there are garages wich screw you.. But thats the same with normal maintanance. Just get a good garage.
No reason to not have an inspection to my opinion.
Also there is the possibility to get a surprise retest by someone from the state the moment they tell the state the car is approved or not.
And they will take away the license to do the testing for the whole garage, fine the whole garage and the inspector personally if there is a discrepency.
Garages get a lot of work from these tests and needed repairs. So they cant really mess around. I had a retest twice on my cars allready.

With that kind of system, I would think the american highways in some states are full of unsafe ducttaped wrecks

Seems almost unthinkable..

I know in hungary, if oyu know the garage well, you can pay a bit extra and just leave the car at home for inspection..

My wife grew up in NYC in the 70s, and when she came upstate learned that the inspection process was not called " buying a sticker" as it was in NYC

Now, the car has to be hooked into the DMV system to be inspected, so it's harder to bypass. NY sends out inspectors to catch the bad actors, too.
