1995 850 Cabin filter ?

Post by dlaxdal »

Does the 850 have a cabin filter that can be changed or cleaned. It has a smell when you turn fan on. What is the best way to get ride of smell.

They have a cabin filter. If you lift the hood and look on the right side of the cowl, it is under the black plastic. I have not changed mine yet, so I can't tell you how hard it is.

Actually you may or may not have a filter, I'm not sure what year they started to include them with the car. My '94 didn't have one but I bought a kit to add it.

Here is a link to a writeup.

http://www.freewebs.com/dacvolvo/pollenfilter.htm

EDIT: I just looked at the writeup and it is for a British car. The same thing applies but the filter is on the passengers side.

Check to see if you have a filter before you order one. If you don't have one you will need to buy the filter adapter.

They do NOT unless the previous owner installed a kit which is VERY cheap to do and recommended
Cabin filter became stadard somewhere in late MY 1996 or 1997 models
(Not sure)

There was no cabin filter. Is there anything else to clean inside the car. There is a smell when you run the air vents. I sprayed some air conditioner spray to kill mold in the condenser. any other ideas.

one of the reasons air conditioners smell is because people keep the recirculation button on .. and it will cause a smell after awhile.

only thing i can think of is opening the top grate where the winshield wipers are and looking down the intake for the blower to see if there are old leaves or something stuck in there.

The other thing is to ensure that the drain hole for the heater fcore is not clogged.

If you had the car parked for awhile you might want to look for rodents in the ductwork.

Look, do a search.
I just wrote a long post on how to get rid of smells in the AC, only about a week or two ago

Where the filter is suppose to go, reach in and clean as much as possible. Then, use half bleach and half water and spray it in and have someone turn the fan on- Recirculate as much as possible. This will kill the mildew....but go easy- you don't want a lot of the mist going out into the car...and I might add, this is a bit tricky as you'll notice a flap covering up your ability to spray into the fan area when you click on the recirculate button. Okay, with that done, let everything dry. Last of all, there is a product (JRL knows its name) that they sell at Autozone or any auto parts place for refreshing the ductwork...it comes in an aresol. Spray it in the same place and let it recirculate too....bad odors will be GONE! good luck :)
