One guy I know put in new solenoids (Sonnax) and made it far worse. Possibly one or more weren't calibrated correctly who knows. He didn't have a line pressure gauge or holes drilled in cover to access the Allen keys.
I've heard of others not doing so well with new solenoids here on the forum.
Next thing was he tried a full bench rebuild and that also failed. He ended up converting the car to manual.

Most folks do OK with a valve body replacement.

Thanks for advice, I replaced whole VB on my 04 c70, money well spent, but on my 02 s60 need to save some money.
Can get new soleinoids for $125 and just replace one at a time with VB in place.
Mine runs cold pretty well, and on highway well hot or cold.
Was told by VB guy there is a risk, but I think it is worth risk

FYI, I have vida and have already flushed from pan to exit and put filter in, trans cooler will go in after Sol swap

I assume your O4 C70 has the AW55-50SN. If so buy the TransGo kit and you can either rebuild the valve body or just rebuild the solenoids. As I recall you can just take out the solenoids and rebuild them and leave the valve body in place. No need to buy new solenoids. If just the solenoid rebuild doesn't work then you can go back in and remove the valve body and use the rest of the kit.

This is based on my experience with my old 2001 XC70 that used the AW55-50.

My advice - follow Precopster's tips and buy a gasket for the valve body (Nissan Maxima - don't recall year - just look which one used the AW55-50) rather than use silicon. It is way easier if you have to go back in and only costs around $10.00.

Was nice and stiff. Made getting all the holes lined up quite easy and not a drop out of it! Can't say the same for that stupid return line o-ring though!!

I am about to order 3 solenoids for my 02 awd s60.

I have prev done entire valve body for my 04 c70 and it worked out well. The 02 I have to minimize cost on and it already have 135K on it.
Already flushed and its drivable, and on highway speeds seems very good, whe warm only small glitches now after flush, trans cooler install and magic red liquid, forget which, got from napa made shifts a lot better.

Do you think spending $100 or so on 3 solenoids will make is 100% or should I maybe get trans oil temp sensor?

Just started my Solenoid replace job, took about 2 hrs to drop subframe.
Started on pan bolts, aleady see some hard to turn, not looking forward to it.
Made a cool way to hold up motor, see picture.
I had a spare s60 cross bar and upper moter mount. Drilled hole in both.
