Engine service required, limp mode, temp sensor?

Post by asentaja1 »

After starting car, there was text saying (in finnish) "engine service required" and car went to limp mode, going only walking speed. Disconnected battery for 5 minutes, car then worked 5 starts and driving, and then sixth start and same limp mode again. At this point Vida gives code ECM-2AA0 particulate filter temperature sensor-faulty signal. I drove it like that for ~week, removing battery after every 5 starts and car worked fine. Until today, now it does not go out of limp mode by disconnecting battery, it now needs fault reset in Vida before every start, but then it works just fine until next start. Now it has two fault codes, same as earlier + ECM-2AB0 exhaust temperature-faulty signal.

I did logging when driving, and to me it looks like temp readings from those sensors look reasonable, and similar to other videos i found. Logged video http://www.mediafire.com/file/u8y19487n ... _001.1.mkv

Should i still try replacing temp sensors? Not liking much idea of replacing ~200eur sensors just for trying it out. Is it possible sensors be kaput even if they give reasonable readings? Any good ideas i should try or check? Comments about logged video?
My driving is almost only 120km straight highway 130-150km/h twice a day, so i don't think anything clogged in exhaust side.

And car is bone stock 2007 v70 d5

Hei, asentja!

We don't get the diesel cars in the U.S. So you might have to wait for our Europe friends to comment.

Further testing.. Upper temp sensor which is accessible behind engine without car lift, shows ~300Ohm when engine has idled about 1hr, that should be in line with specs. When logging, this sensor constatly changes values at least little, looking "live" so i think this might be ok.

Now i noticed particulate filter temp sensor is is long times freezed drawing straight line (picture) although responses quite rapidly when i press gas pedal. So i think i'm going to replace that first. Now i just have to figure out right part number, 4 choises:31370464, 31370463, 31431045, 31431046

I'm wondering what " particulate filter temp sensor " is.

Looks like i got this sorted out, two days without fault coming back. Replaced both sensors, on dpf right sensor was 31431046 and first sensor right behind engine was 31431045. Dpf sensor was "easy", 17mm open end wrench and 50cm steel pipe as extension did it, but only after heating it first with torch. Sensor behind engine was "easy" too, but it is in so tight place, it was impossible to ger enough force to brake it open with open end wrench, so i just cut wires off coming from it, so i could undo it with 17mm deep socket and long (60cm) extension and extra lond socket wrench. New sensor was tightened with open end wrench.
