2001 V70 Driver Door Won't Stay Locked

Post by perkinsfmly »

I have a 2001 V70 T5 and the driver's door will not stay locked. Doesn't matter how I lock it -- key fob, key in lock, or inside button. I lock the door and it immediately pops back "open."
I read in another forum where someone said if any of the door lock actuators are bad it will automatically unlock the driver's door. He recommended having the Volvo dealer check the system out using VADIS to figure which door lock actuator is causing the problem. Apparently it doesn't have to be the driver's door.
I asked the Volvo service rep about checking the car with VADIS. He said VADIS doesn't test the locking systems.
Any suggestions on how to figure out which door lock actuator may be the culprit? I've checked everything I know how and nothing seems to work.

The locks can be actuated by vadis. Command can be sent to lock and unlock.
Useful for fault trace but your lock button seems to be working. Sounds like something else is countermanding the manual controls.
On my car, if I hit the lock button when the door is open it immediately pops up (open) again.
Yours might be stuck in that mode. Thats a puzzle.

We sort of have this problem with our 2001 V70, but not consistently, and not to the point where the drivers door will *not* lock. I'd say about 50% of the time, everything locks normally, but the other 50% of the time everything locks but then the driver's door unlocks again immediately. Actually if you walk away quickly while locking via the key fob, you don't always hear it unlock itself, then you return to the car hours later thinking you left it unlocked. If we catch the driver's door unlocking it self, then lock a second time right after this, it locks and stays locked. The interesting part is, when the driver's door unlocks itself in these cases, and then you open it, the alarm system goes off. So it's like the security system got the message that everything was locked, but then the driver's door unlocked itself. I have no idea how to track down what's causing the problem.
Cars I've owned:
- 2015 to current: 2001 Volvo V70 2.4T; 2004 Honda Odyssey
- 2007 to 2015: 2002 Subaru Legacy L Wagon
- 2003 to 2016: 2001 Toyota Corolla LE
- 1999 to 2003: 1994 Toyota Camry LE
