Cheap, Simple Headliner Repair

Post by PeteB »

Our car is not in very good cosmetic shape, so I'm looking for a simple easy headliner repair.
Has anyone tried these little cork screw things, is there a backing for them to screw into
behind the cloth in the 850?

I use them on our 1997 855 GLT (197k miles). Yes, they screw into the fiberboard backing underneath the cloth surface of the headliner. I like them... inexpensive, easy to install, effective. The main negative is that you can see them.

I would not recommend it. The foam in the liner is bad, deteriorating, falling down and likely inhaled into your respiratory system every time you hit a bump or ride with the windows down. Can't be healthy, just my opinion.

Ours has not come loose at any of the seams, so there is nothing falling down
other than fabric.
You might be right that microscopic particles get though but who knows.

Thanks for the caution.

I hope that catching it early helps to make this work out without that issue.

Have I mentioned that I hate this car! LOL!

Mine didnt come loose for quite some time. Just hung a bit. But once some luggage pulled it apart at the end, and then it came apart completely very fast. snowing orange glue/foam dust. And no way to put it back.

On a wagon it is actually quite an easy job to replace the whole thing. Or take the old foam/flue off and glue new stuff on it.
few bolts and screws. And some clicking panels.

But I do like the creative solutions with pins, etc! ;)
