Hello,
I am a first time poster. Also, I have seen related posts about alarms going haywire so I hope someone can help. I have had this 2000 Volvo V70-xc since new and I love it. Ever since a wreck when it was around 2 years old the alarm randomly triggers, it seemed like especially on rainy days. At that time I took it to Volvo service and they said no problems and they could not disable it because it is attached to other things (it may have been airbag?) Anyway, I just never locked the doors.
But now I am sending my son to college and want to be able to lock it. I would like to disable the alarm but I can't do all technical stuff to disable part of the relay. I saw it mentioned somewhere that Volvo sell a dummy 210 relay that might help. Would Volvo do that? Also, what would happen if I just removed the 210/211 relay (if that is what this model has). This is such an amazing safe car and I want my son to be safe AND be able to lock the doors. Maybe I should try Volvo service again since it has been many years since i addressed this issue with them? What might I suggest to them?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

I am not qualified to talk about the relay issue or how the systems are inter-linked. I do have a couple of questions about the accident the vehicle was in all those years ago.
Was the car in a front or rear end hit? If front end, I would suggest you have the alarm wire at the front left hood lock assembly checked to make sure the wiring is not damaged or the mechanism it connects to on the lock. It is in a vulnerable position and wet weather could affect it as it is in a vulnerable position.
Other place I would check is at the immobiliser unit that sits on the top of the speedo cluster. The wiring and the unit may be affected by a an accident if the airbag was set off.
Have you asked the dealer to check it with their Vida system to see if it can tell where on the car the system thinks it is being attacked?
Maybe they can't check it, but I would have thought is would set a code of some sort?
Neil.

I'm also going to guess its the hood alarm.
You can unplug the sick cow alarm under the hood...it looks like a small alien space craft mounted up in the cowl tight below the windshield and stop the noise at least. If you unplug the hood switch that will stop the alarm from setting when you lock the doors.
I think. I leVe my keys in the car so I don't know a lot about alarms

The 210 relay thing doesn't work on the '99 and 2000 models. The alarm is an entirely different setup and the immobilizer is coded into the ECU. You can unplug the horn but the car still won't run if the alarm is triggered. I think VIDA/DICE will report on each door and trunk and hood individually so they should be able to individually test each latch. Intermittent problems are horrible to chase down but they are usually easily fixed once the problem is found.

I don't think she is having trouble running, the key is canceling the alarm ok. I was thinking you could fool the alarm into not setting by unplugging the hood switch, then lock the rest of the doors

I tried to bypass my alarm by disconnecting the hood switch but I couldn't get a positive alarm to confirm. Then I Remembered the alarm takes some time to set, do I did confirm it worked later. Try disconnect this connector and then locking the car to see if it alarms

Problem could me in the rear lid latch. The wiring harness in the rear lid is also known to give trouble.
