BCM Errors 0070 & 0072

Post by Metallo »

Hi folks,

I get the two error messages below from VIDA:

Image

Before I send the module to Xemodex, I want to go through the BCM diagnostic flowchart they have on their site but I am stuck with the measurements.

http://xemodex.com/us/knowledgebase/bcm-flow-chart/

I know how to measure the voltage with the multimeter, but I do not know how to measure the ground.
Essentially when they say: Do you have a ground at pins 17and 47?

Q1
Would you tell me how to measure it with the multimeter?

Also, in their site they recommend to send them the ABS Pump in case both errors above show up, but I read in other forums that rarely this pump fails, so I would first try the BCM module and if that does not clear the codes, I can still send the ABS Pump later.

Q2
Should the ABS Pump need to be replaced, do you think I may save some $$$ by buying a used one?

Thank you!
Alex

I can only address the first part of Q1.
Using an ohm meter put one lead on a good chassis ground and touch the other to pin 17. Do the same with pin 47. Ohm reading dropping to 0 means you have a ground.

You test your ground connection by touching the test lead to another ground, and confirming you have zero resistance. Then go to pin 17 and 47 on the harness to test the ground.

I really doubt this is the problem.

Thank you guys.

My Q2 is more to know if the ABS Pump would need any code reset as the BCM does in order to work with the right VIN of my car.

I am trying to do my due diligence before sending the BCM module to Xemodex.

Cheers,
Alex

You mean the ground? I doubt it too, but just to be sure before paying big bucks.

Hi there.

No issue with the voltage, but the grounds seem to be a problem.
Multimeter (Analog), Ohm 1x, one lead to pin 47 the other to one of the screws on the fender (the same I use to measure the 12V), the meter was almost to the end of scale at 5 Ohms and stays there.

I do not know how to interpret this

PS: Please ignore the above post, I just discovered that my multimeter was not calibrated correctly. Now it measures '0' as it should.

Hi all,

I got the BCM fixed by XeModex as per my first post, errors disappeared.
After a few weeks, the BCM-0070 appeared again, as per note of XeModex, if one of the two codes appear again, the pump motor is faulty and needs to be fixed.

So, I am about to pull out the hydraulic unit and send it to XeModex.
I intend to follow the instructions provided in VIDA.
I located a document on this forum suggesting the motor can be removed without the need to disconnect the brake pipes from the ABS modulator, but for whatever reason, I think it is going to be easier for me to follow the VIDA procedure and then bleeding.

Any suggestion is welcomed.

Thank you,
Alex
