98 S70 N/A 5-Speed, Power Steering Pump Options

Thinking about some options here. FCP has a Meyle power steering pump for $201 and a Maval one for $122. So, being the frugal person that I am, I'm looking over at Rockauto and there are other options here... I'm thinking about the AC/Delco. It's Professional! Or the Cardone... Any thoughts?

Woah... Autozone has a pretty affordable option. Has anyone used a Duralast power steering pump?

I was watching a power steering pump rebuild video on Youtube yesterday, it certainly looks like it involves quite a bit of "finesse" work to make sure you get it right. I could certainly see the worker who has to crank out 10 of these an hour taking shortcuts. And who pays the price...

Seems like folks usually install used pumps. Do you really need a special Volvo tool and puller to take the pulley off? I can't seem to find the procedure for pulling it off without special tools.

I need to set up a flush. Trying to eliminate some random stiffness. And three "turkey-basterings" have certainly made it better, but not good enough.

2 years ago I got a power steering pump from NAPA P/N 81-1151. I had to R and R reservoir and pulley. Cost was $44.00. Pump is still working 18K miles later. I couldn't get the pulley off but the NAPa store I use has a shop. They charged me $15.00 to put on the pulley. Perfect fit. This was on a 1998 V70 AWD.

I've had decent luck with AC Delco products in the past as well as good luck with most NAPA parts.

I was thinking about that AC Delco one, too. I need to run into my local Napa and see if they have a shop that can pull that pulley off. Now I see why most folks install used pieces on here and on the internet. Does anyone have that Volvo tool? What makes it special? I'm sure there's a way to mimic its function...

Volvo 9995444 doesn't seem too terribly complex.

It actually looks a lot like a bicycle bottom bracket puller tool.

For $17 plus shipping, I might just bite the bullet and get it. As long as I could lend it out at least once it'd be worth it...

Alright fellas, a few power steering flushes later, and some improvement, it's time to replace my pump. All this damn parallel parking in NYC! I was able to remedy some stiffness with flushes, but the groans today as I was trying to get into a tight spot were unlike anything I've ever heard before...

I don't have as much time on my hands as I used to have so I ordered a 9995443 tool in order to be able to remove the pulley with relative ease. Is there a secret to doing this? These are reverse threaded right (i.e., righty-loosey; lefty-tight), no?

I think we can get MVS to buy that tool when done for the loaner program, but maybe it's so cheap that doesn't make sense
