S70 1998 "fuses in supplementary fuse box"

what does that mean? fuses in supplementary fuse box?

My ABS (50a) fuse is blown so I'm going out there to see if swapping the headlight fuse will get the car started. Won't idle with that fuse blown -- what does it do? The damn ABS module has been bad (replaced it twice) but never had a blown fuse before.

well just swapped them out and the fuse blew immediately and something got very hot down there -- WITHOUT the key even being in the ignition ? !

I suppose it may be the abs module itself? My TRACS light has been on but oddly, lately haven't seen the ABS light on (seems to me I have before). I'll assume it is on but the bulb is bad?

Can this nodule just be unplugged and unpowered and the car still operate? (by me, I'm sure a shop would require it to work I guess).
I've replaced the friggin thing 3 times I think and last time with a guaranteed good rebuild.

Now I'm hearing it could be the pump? ABS pump? Maybe not though -- my speedometer has also not been working. Typical of the module? Sorry for all the self responses on this

Yes unplugging the ABS module will give you a brake system failure red light however the hydraulics will be fine and car will pull up well but not on ice and slippery surfaces of course.

The excessive current draw may be affecting power to the ECM.

Send the module to Midwest ABS. Matty is a long contributing forum member and will look after you. It isn't likely the ABS pump has failed. The ABS module handles the power to the ABS pump through 2 large pins so this must be repaired first before looking at other causes.

The blade and high power fuses on Volvos are high quality and don't fail on age.

I'll swag that 99.9 percent of the time a fuse failure is linked to another electrical fault of some kind.

Ok -- not good. Replacing the ABS module tomorrow which I think has moisture inside it. Like I said the 50 amp ABS fuse was blown, put in a new one and it blew immediately. (Without the ignition on also if that means anything).

Does anyone know will there always be a steady unswitched 12 volts on the ABS fuse? I'll disconnect the multiconductor cable from the ABS and the power connector tomorrow then reinsert the fuse and see if it doesn't blow (which should point to a bad ABS module).
If not, then probably something in the wiring.
