2001 XC70 oil leak
2001 XC70 oil leak
I own a 2001 XC70 with 58,000 miles. The vehicle is in good shape and this is the first real problem I have had to deal with on it (except for repeated bulb replacements). I started noticing oil on my driveway and took it to an import shop (warranty is expired) where they confirmed the leak and suggested I check for re-calls (no such luck). Any way, the leak looked to be comming from the upper seal of a section that sits between the engine block and the oil pan (don't have a clue what it would be called). Driving 10 - 20 miles a day I am currently having to add about a half quart of oil per week. I have poked around a bit on the web and have found a few threads talking about oil leaks from the engine block that had to end witha block replacement (don't know if my problem is the same or not though). I have an appointment with the dealership later this month. What might I expect to hear from them, and if the engine block does require replacement how much might I expect to pay?

Either a turbo return line (not too bad) or a rear main seal (expensive)
It also could be a transmission seal but doubtful.
Look at the turbo return line although they shouldn't leak that much oil!!!

Round numbers. $1000, but it's not very common in P2 cars, especially with lower miles unless the oil was never changed and it's become sludge!forwaters wrote:Thanks JRL. Any idea what the rear main seal would run me?
If it has, you have more problems than a RMS
(Never heard of leaking block that requires a new engine)
