2002 V70 XC wouldn't start '' start something message ''

I went to the store, engine at normal temp and when I came out, the engine was cranking but wouldn't start. I tried a few times, played with shifter ( automatic ) still wouldn't start. I was very pissed and saw a message saying '' start cancelled or start inhibited '' again I was so pissed that I didn't really noticed the exact message and at the third or fourth time, it started. WHAT COULB BE THE CAUSE.
