I have recently experienced a problem with the Auto Transmission shifter being locked in one position.
Initially, I was going down a long steep grade so went sideways to "Manual" to shift down for engine braking, however, nothing happened, it stayed in "Drive" No problem, good brakes.
The next issue was when I parked. I couldn't shift out of "Drive" to "Park" until I manually released the lock via the lift up flap and key insert.
It seems as though I need to get the console off to see what is going on. Any thoughts on how to do this? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Can you list your model year, engine and transmission as well as if your car is RHD or LHD. I know nothing about cars in Australia.
I do have a copy of VIDA in a virtual machine- might be able to look some things up for you. My first thoughts are it's low on transmission fluid... or something like a solenoid is not engaging from the shifter.
