2000 V70 blend motor cam - to lube or not to lube?

Post by scot850 »

So I am checking out the AC servo motors and flaps and I am about to re-assemble the blend motor into position. It uses a weird cam like disc with tracks that the flap control arms follow to adjust them.

Question is: It looks like the material used on the 850 speedo drive, so would it be wrong to lube this in any way as it may affect how it works longer term or would a little silicon oil or grease make sense to make the unit work more freely?

I plan to use some silicon oil on the flap bushes where I can reach them, but should I even do that?

Picture of the cam below:

Side of cam that is visible adjusts the outer 2 flaps for the windshield and floor, back side cam operated the 2 center flaps for main face level vents:

Thanks,

Neil.

Silicone on a Q-tip should clean up the plastic and help things. White lithium grease, lightly applied?

If I had a larger garage, I could have more Volvos.

That is kind of where I am on this. I have sprayed the bushes on the flaps with silicon oil through a tube.

The suggestion of a clean with silicon oil on a q-tip is a great idea and it will clean it too. I'm thinking grease will be too thick, and the fact that there appears to be no sign of any grease on any I have seen in the past would suggest they don't need it I am thinking and it may be too thick as well. So I'll just do the silicon oil on the Q-tip and it can hopefully be better than now.

I have now checked all the 4 motors with a 9V battery and they all appear to work as they should, so if there is any area of a problem then it must be in the ECC unit itself and I have 2 spares I know that work to test if there is any issue.

Thanks for the advice and guidance guys. Much appreciated!

Neil.
