2000 V70 - What does this pipe do?

On the plus side, I’ve been tracking my mpg for several months so I’ve got a solid run rate. It will be interesting to see if fixing this hose and installing a new thermostat (judging by the looks of Things, the one in the car is original) will have any impact.

I am talking about the air-thermostat in the airbox and not the coolant thermostat just for clarity.

As far as I can tell I have not found a replacement for the air thermostat which you can get for the -98 models and 850's. Only 'new' option so far is one from Volvo and that is to replace the whole lower airbox section with the thermostat as part of it. I get a bit of a discount at the dealer but it was about $115 with taxes!

I bought a lower airbox at PnP today and will test the thermostat in that for a spare or it will be returned. Considered keeping it to see if it can be dismatled and if the aftermarket thermostat for the -98 models is the same.

Good to know! I now have a spare to test and if good cost me $10 CDN ( <$8 US) v's $115 CDN for a new one assuming it is good. Off now to stick it into the fridge while the boss is out!
