My wife took the Volvo as soon as she knew it was working, I just hope it keeps working for her. She wasn't into taking the 84 VW Rabbit Cabrio out for a drive with the non existent heater and tightly tucked wheels in fenderwells. Doesnt like the snow, it sits low enough it plows! Lol

On the driver side of the center console there is a plastic side piece. Next to the driver seat your see a slot, rotate it and slide the plastic backwards. Removing it will allow you access to pop off the cable.

I did see a post about sloting the bolts to be able to remove them with a screw driver, but I had to drill mime out.

As for the car not starting, that might be because of the immobilizer. You must hold up a working key next to the ignition antenna that is around the ignition lock before turning the back part with a screw driver.

Thanks velorider. I ended up breaking two tabs on the side piece but it will still attach.

I would love to drill mine out but I need an angle drill to do it. Tried 3 different drills, not enough room. Considered dropping the column but that looks like a hassle too.

The car started, the key was in the ignition and just like that it rotated!

Glad it started. It's probably on the way out so be ready. Our's was occasionally an issue until it wasn't

I own a Harbor Freight angle drill because of those stupid bolts.

Good luck!

Well my new years eve was spent cutting the head off of one of those bolts as the wheel locked again. I sheared the head, took an awl to pinch it thru and wala, it worked again! Long enough to get me to work and back.
It was a hostile takeover at Case New Holland plant for the security company I work for. Volvo got me there and home. No issues . Tomorrow I shred the other bolt and set that steering lock straight, once and for all!! I kept thinking, if I had to stop at a road block, they'd think I stole this car the way it looks!

Happy New Year to All!
