1998 V70 AWD Flashing Arrow Question

Post by galexie64 »

I get two codes when I scan the car with Vol-FCR. I don't have any check engine lights. The car seems to be driving and shifting fine but this is the first time I've driven it so no real experience.

AT-143 Kickdown switch, signal too low
AT-232 Vehicle Speed signal absent

What could be causing these codes?

Let's see if we can get some conversation going on this for you.

So have you just got the car or have you had it for some time? The fact you have vol-FCR would give the impression you have had it for some time.

If you have had it for some time, does the dash have any other quirks like the speedo dropping in and out, the trip/milometer dropping out and does it have any other warning lights on?

The arrow is flashing which would suggest a fault. But so far it is hard to figure if it is with the ABS unit/ABS sensors or if it is with transmission and/or TCU.

I've had the car for almost a year but I've only started driving it over the last two days. I bought it with a blown head gasket. I just spent the last week swapping parts from an immaculate wrecked 98 v70r. I swapped the v70r motor into this car. I did do a tranny fluid change. The abs unit is from the parts car and is rebuilt. The sensors are also from the other car. I also replaced both front axles with rebuilt units pulled from the parts car. I have put about 50 miles on the car. I did try clearing the codes and the came right back. No other codes are showing up. So far the cluster seems to be working fine. I did have these codes before all the work so I would assume it is something I haven't touched.

I can swap over any sensors from the parts car so there would be no cost to try. I'm not sure where to start though.

In your Swedespeed thread you do mention the ABS/TRACS light was on in the car when purchased. Did you swap out the ABS module and did you have it re-built or did the previous owner? Do you know who rebuilt the ABS unit? If it was done poorly it could be that it was not repaired correctly or the harness connector may not be fitted correctly. Try removing the harness connector and re-seating it, an the power cable. Make sue you have no corrosion on the connectors on either side of the connection.

Make sure the ABS units were compatible and supported the same Options on the two cars.

I swapped the ABS module from my V70R parts car and it is the same unit (and same options). The module had a rebuilt sticker on it. I will try and get a picture of the sticker.

I no longer get an ABS/TRACKS light or a check engine light. I'm now only getting those two codes.

Did you clear the codes with Vol-FCR? They won't go away on their own, even after the cause is corrected. The two codes might be just artifacts from spurious hiccups long gone.
