2006 V70 -- High Beam Detent on Directional Stalk Busted

Can't get my high beams to stay on. "Flash" function works great, I just can't get the high beams to stay on. The high beam detent doesn't seem to grab.

Time for a junk yard directional stalk?

Anybody else experience this?

There is no 'detent'. It's a momentary contact switch merely used to tell the CEM you've pulled on the stick:

If flash to pass is working the stick on the steering column is fine. Either the lights aren't turned on at the headlamp switch in which case you get flash to pass instead of high/low function. Or there's a problem with the headlamp switch: It's turned clockwise to the 3 o'clock position, but not telling the CEM that you've selected night driving/head light mode instead of daytime DRL+flash to pass behavior. The CEM controls the headlamps through relays. The headlamp switch is a data device and does not directly supply power to any of the actual lights. Nor does any of that 'working current' loop through the switch on the stalk.

I know this is a bit snarky: Have you recently let someone else drive the car?

Evan..are you sure the highs aren't working! I think the flash puts on both highs/lows so there are actually three modes of operation low, high, flash.

Blue indicator lighting up in dash? Is that bulb good?

Turn the light switch to position II.
In position I the stalk is flash to pass.
In position II the stalk is High/Low.

Position I is normal running.
Position II is high beam running.

Unlike P80s you can't switch DRL on/off with the screw in the headlight switch, it has to be done in VIDA

It's ok. When I first bought the car (S60), I would be embarrassed to admit how long it took me to figure out how to get the trunk open without using the FOB. It simply didn't occur to me it might be like a SUV with the release on the hatch/above the license plate. Then there was the time I inadvertently pressed the valet button and thought the trunk release was broken. Fortunately I noticed the DIM message about it before I started taking anything apart.
