2008 xc70 hissing brake booster questions

Post by vcowens »

I just bought a pre-owned 2008 XC70. How would I know if my car has the Collision Warning with auto brake option (aka pre-crash system) ? I have a hissing vacuum leak brake booster that I need to replace and I want to make sure I get the right replacement booster. I guess if I don't see a camera in my visor area then I don't have it. My choices are a booster with pre-crash system and without asbestos brakes and a booster without pre crash system with asbestos brakes. What difference do asbestos brake pads make?

Thanks for your time.

I want to make sure I get the right replacement booster.

Start by positively identifying the booster to be replaced.
Get the Volvo part number off the Booster. It will be in the format 31274XXX, 31302533 or 31329898.

No Volvo part number 31261816 in the database.

The closest number I could find is Volvo part number 31261819 which is an XC90 fuel pump.

You sure the only number on the booster?

I should have taken a picture of the number on the booster. I'll take one tonight after work. Thanks.

Put your VIN number into the Volvo Parts Lisle web engine and you will nail it. Save your account and you don't have to do that again.

there appears to be two groupings of brake boosters for XC70 cars w/o collision brake assist, those with asbestos brake pads and those without asbestos brake pads. Does anyone know why there is a difference based on asbestos pads?

Weird, the only reference to Volvo part number 316261816 that I can find is on a couple of Russian websites for used parts.

It looks like there are parts numbers for CA US, without and without collision warning, plus a chassis break number, so six part numbers - of which one will be right for your car.

If you put your VIN into the Lisle site - that will help
