About six months ago I put on non-volvo pads on front in my 95 850 turbo. Soon after I started hearing noise everytime i stepped on the brake. Mechanic told me that brakes pads not sitting proper, so i bought volvo pads. Before I could put on volvo pads..i was told that my calipers are not retracting on front right side. Did the non volvo pads mess up the caliper. Can anyone recommend a replacement caliper and source ..and is there a site that can give me directions on how to repalce calipers and brakes hoses..is possible to be done at home..
My other problem isL the transmission is not shifting down even when i floor the accelertor on the highway. is there a sensor or a part i can clean or replace that monitors this function.
any help would be appreciated..
two problems, brakes and kcik-down Topic is solved

I can't help with your specific questions on the brakes, but perhaps www.ipdusa.com can help. They're Volvo experts (they sell Volvo parts).
When you put the brakes on, remember the shims to avoid the brake noise you've heard so much of: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/shims.php
Don't know about the kickdown. Have you read the codes?

More on the brakes...
The metal in the brake calipers is subject to corrosion. Every time you replace pads you need to thoroughly clean the caliper. I remove the caliper from the disk (still connected with brake line) and liberally coat with brake cleaner. I then have my son press the brakes to extend the piston (be careful - too far will blow out the piston). I then take a scoch-brite pad and alcohol and polish any corrosion off the piston, guide bolts and anywhere else on the caliper. IPD had a rebuild kit if the rubber boots and seals need replacing.
Use plenty of brake grease on the back of the pads and bolts. Also clean the shims and re-use them. See www.matthewsvolvosite.com/shims.php for the rear shims (originals can be cut down with tin snips).
Also clean the anti-lock brake sensor while you are there. There is usually iron sticking to the magnetic sensor.
It is also a good idea to purge your fluid when you do your brakes. I use a kitchen baster to remove the fluid out of the reservoir and put in new DOT4 Synthetic. I bleed the rear passenger side until it runs clear, refill the reservoir, bleed driver side rear, refill, passenger side front, refill, driver side front, and then refill.
