Has 130,000 miles withhigh pressure turbo, in good shape. Any thoughts on what to look at in a $3,600 car? Jeff

That would be dealer's retail for clean condition. If it is a private party deal, knock off $1100. The people that think they can get dealer's retail on a private party transaction are delusional or looking for a sucker. The private party deal is, there is a trade in value that one can get from a dealer and the retail price.

The private party deal is the seller and buyer split the difference between trade in and retail ... more or less.

Why would one pay a private party full retail, when you can pay the same at a dealer and better hold the dealer accountable . Holding a private party accountable is a slippery slope. One would be a fool to take a risk and not get something for doing so.

I could bite at that price if the following had been done

New clutch
New AC evaporator
New MM throttle body
No play in front end or new LCA

Guess will go take look tomorrow. Is a MM throttle body like the Modex I put in the 1999 V70XC? I'm sure a clutch replacement is expensive and the LCA are not to bad to replace. Thanks for the replies.

I don't like C70's so much :D but it's a decent price, probably $600 higher than usual for your market. I'm assuming it's in very good condition, to go along with the low miles.

As far as the actual question of your first post, what to look at:
- do the windows go up and down, this is a weak spot in C70s. Check all of the door hardware, locking mechanisms too.
- condition of the top and how well it seals/closes
- 130k is prime time for basically all suspension components to go (struts, spring seats, control arms)
- clutch as mentioned, but presumably it is original and just fine at only 130k
- PCV may have never been done, if so add that to the purchase cost it is time
- throttle body as mentioned
- the usual (evidence maintenance history, ask them what kind of gas they use is it high octane, what brand/weight of oil, what kind of driving, etc..)

Of my two sticks , one is over 200k on the original clutch, the other needed a new one at 110k

Clutch dusk and pressure plate. $300

The throttle body is a $500 job

I like to ask why they're getting rid of it. If I see a shiny new car in the driveway it is obvious usually, other times it may be because a car has had one problem too many. If they disclose the problems, I'm more likely to buy it as then I know what I'm getting into.

When I am told there are no problems or they haven't had any problems I immediately get suspicious. You can't own a car and have no problems.
